Let me quickly introduce myself and the reason ‘why’ I have decided to start a jewellery making blog.
If you have been following me on Instagram you may already know that I started my jewellery business as a creative outlet – a way of relaxing and unwinding from my career as a psychotherapist. I started making jewellery long before that however. For as long as I can remember I have been repurposing and crafting wearable pieces from beads or my grandmother’s costume jewellery (that she allowed me to take apart).
These days jewellery making is a much larger part of my life as I have taken time away from my counselling career. I have since opened a greenhouse & retail space where I sell my own work and the work of other local artists. I have also begun hosting handcraft markets for local makers.
Something that has been on my mind is the way that social media marketing has taken over our creative lives. Many makers are feeling frustrated with the perfectly curated little boxes and algorithms. There are aspects of my jewellery craft that I would love to show you, behind the scenes, learning moments etc, but those don’t make for pretty content on Instagram. I don’t want to be a content creator; I am a jewellery maker.
That is where the Blog comes in. This is the space where I will share more of my creative process, for those who care to follow along. I will also share some tips, thoughts and links that may be helpful if you are wanting to develop your own jewellery making skills. I will still be maintaining my Instagram and Etsy sites along with this space.
As always, thank you for stopping by and for following along. I appreciate it!
